Cyber Security Awareness Month

Did you know that October is Cyber Security Awareness Month!  In a Recent announcement, Governor Baker drew, residents of Massachusetts, attention to the need for Cyber Security Awareness.  This is an important Topic for all of us, no matter if we own a business or are consumers.  Mass.gov has more information.

The internet has allowed information to be accessed within minutes all with a click of a button.  This is great, but it also comes with some risks.

Cyber Security Tips

  • Set strong passwords for your online accounts. (AVOID: PASSWORD ; or 1234)
  • Always logout of your account when finished.  Also when using public WIFI or public computer do not save your password on the device.
  • Beware of links in emails that appear to be from your bank of other financial institutions.  If you are in doubt call your bank.  Banks do not ask you to provide login information through email.

 

Protect yourself from a Data Breach

  • Know your credit score. If something looks off, check into it.
  • Know your transactions.  Check your credit and debit accounts for irregularities.
  • Avoid opening email, if you do not recognize the name. Also if the subject contains a link or strange message do not open it.
